The project
The Bookstore 
Today, the Black Cat Bookstore is an online sales site, a touring bookstore (Contact us for a market stand designed for your audience!), and a beautiful stock of French books that keeps growing.
But our project goes further! We are actively looking for a location. A space neither too big nor too small to welcome you in a warm environment, where we can share our readings and other leisure activities.
What we are most excited about is getting to know you and listening to what you want!

What's next...
The Tea Room
At the Librairie Du Chat Noir, we want you to be able to sit down to read, but also to enjoy a hot drink, a cold drink, or a treat. Some of our tableware will be vintage, and other pieces will be made by French and Dutch artists. Thereby, you can leave with the book you started during your snack break as well as your favorite cup 😉
The Events
We want to develop several types of events within the Librairie Du Chat Noir.
You can attend book signings, meetings with authors, various book clubs, reading sessions, and writing workshops.
We also want to give a stage to the creation of objects through occasional workshops using books as the primary material.
Once a month, the tea room will also host a “tricothé” (“knit and sip” or “knittea-knittea”?). What could be better than a morning of knitting or crocheting in the studious ambiance of books while drinking tea?
A timeless moment focused on an activity and an exchange of knowledge, facilitating discussion between French speakers and non-French speakers.
The values
We want to promote the circular and local economy. Our primary mission is to collect and showcase your second-hand books.
We will also follow this approach in the choice of our bookstore equipment and in our communication and shipping materials by prioritizing second-hand and recycled items.
We are committed to working with local, human-sized businesses that share our values.
We also want to highlight French artists living in Amsterdam by presenting their works or skills. For example, we wish to work with French bakers and pastry chefs in Amsterdam for the treats available to you in our tea room.
